Wind sports of many types can be enjoyed while visiting the Timber House. Natural features deliver stiff afternoon winds, typically side-onshore. Your host is a keen, although all too infrequent kiter. Downwind runs to Bald Head Island are a great way to spend an afternoon. Kiters and windsurfers can launch from the Timber House beach (see below) or farther down the lakeshore to the west. The bottom is sandy and safe. The view and scenery are second to none! Bald Head Island is the first of two islands across the mouth of Wellers Bay. It consists of deserted sand beaches on both sides, with a narrow strip of treed sand dunes in between. You’ll swear you’ve been transported to the Caribbean. Its a perfect place to land your kite. Just be aware you’ll need to swim your rig across a narrow channel (about 200ft.) to get back to the mainland! Note, this is a highly recommended choice. Landings on the mainland shore near the island can be complicated! The walk back to the Timber House can be accomplished on bare feet, if you’re a little crazy like me. …Dave
Sailors of larger craft will appreciate the view from the Timber House waterfront. Frequent regattas provide inspiration. Moorings are available at several locations in Brighton Bay, if you are fortunate enough to visit by boat! It may also be possible to anchor at the west Murray Canal bridge. See our Google map page to locate relative to the Timber House. Its less than 2km away. Call us! We’ll come pick you up!
Spend a little time at the Timber House beach! Some recent shots from the beach:
Your hosts soaking up rays on the waterfront. Great views across Prince Edward County, Presqu’ile, Wellers Bay and Bald Head Island.
Here’s another glorious shot of a recent regatta, viewed from the Timber House shore. Participants are most likely some members of Brighton’s Presqu’ile Yacht Club, a fine club that has operated for 70 or 80 years (just a guess). One of the coolest and most unpretentious clubs around. It has a waiting list!
