Explore The Cultural Riches of Trenton, Belleville and Brighton
From local theatre at the Brighton Barn, to fine dining, and a wealth of local artists, writers and poets, there is a lot to see and do. Here’s a sampling:
- Al Purdy, Canada’s Voice of the Land Al Purdy is a hero to Canada’s literary community. Twice awarded the Governor General’s Award in Poetry, he lived in nearby Ameliasburgh and Trenton. Humble and magnificent, his poetry canonizes our surroundings, articulating the love for place that claims all who call this place home.
- ‘At the Quinte Hotel‘. Al Purdy and Gord Downie star in this wonderful, but gritty short film about an iconic local bar.
- Brighton Barn Theatre
Brighton is home to the Brighton Barn Theatre where plays come alive. The nucleus of the theatre was constructed from a heritage barn in Proctor Park. Maximum seating is only 125, so all patrons enjoy a close unobstructed view of the stage. This year’s productions include: “The Farndale Avenue Housing Estate Townswomen’s Guild Dramatic Society Murder Mystery”, “Light Magicals” of Brighton, and more shows to be planned. Be sure to check the calendar of events for up coming theatre productions.
